Sip on these brews after an outdoor adventure. - Robin Jackson has long been known as a mecca for outdoor adventure. But as of late, the region’s brewing scene has earned plenty of props, too. Local breweries have earned a variety of top-flight awards, including gold medals at the Great American Beer Festival. From the town’s swankiest bars to its most down-home watering holes, wherever you go for a tipple you’re all but guaranteed a selection of incredible beer.
And what better way to top off an adventure outdoors than with a pint or two? When it comes to the perfect Jackson beer pairings, here are several outdoorsy excursions with a stop at nearby breweries for a taste of some of the best of what the Tetons and the region area have to offer.
(Pro tip: After indulging, be sure to take the START Bus, a cab, or a sober ride home so you don’t end up on a certain local website.)
Teton Pass and Grand Teton Brewery
Ski Teton Pass’s Edelweiss or one of the many other backcountry options on the pass (after checking avalanche conditions, of course) and then head down into Victor, Idaho, for a tasting session at Grand Teton Brewing. The unique, 11,000-square-foot brewery is located near the base of the pass on the Idaho side, with a 30-barrel brewhouse that pumps out a head-spinning array of tasting options.
The pub offers up a sampling of the brewery’s finest beers and, as of April 1, the local’s favorite Lost Continent Double IPA will be available again. While the pub doesn’t serve food, you’re welcome to bring your own. Beer geeks will enjoy the free brewing tours, usually scheduled for 3 or 3:30 pm.
Snow King and Snake River Brewing
Spend the day skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, or riding the Cowboy Coaster a Jackson’s beloved local hill, Snow King Mountain. Afterward, head to another locals’ favorite spot, Snake River Brewing, for a bite and a pint or two.
Local favorite brews include Snake River Pale Ale, Pako’s EYE-P-A, Jenny Lake Lager, and Zonker Stout. Seasonal beers coming on tap in late winter and early spring include the White Room IPA, Fitzy’s Stout, 90 Day Wunder, McCarthy’s Red Ale, and the Cam-Hatten Project (Sled Dog beer aged in a whiskey barrel and infused with maraschino cherries and orange peel).
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and The Roadhouse
Powder hounds trek from all around the world to ski the steeps at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Whether you spend the day cruising the corduroy on Casper or plunging into the infamous Corbet’s Couloir, stop by the Roadhouse on your way back into town for some perfect post-adventure apres.
Located on Teton Village Road, the Roadhouse Brewery offers up award-winning brews, including Saison en Regalia, which won a silver medal at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival. Sample the Family Vacation Homestead Ale, Avarice & Greed Golden Ale, or the classic Rhombus IPA. In April, the brewery is scheduled to release a Belgian blonde and a new IPA, and the Curtain Wit also is poised to return.
Cache Creek and Melvin Brewing
It’s the perfect time of year for fat biking, so get geared up for a day of action at Cache Creek. After your quads are taxed, settle onto a bar stool and enjoy the bounty of Thai Me Up, a cozy, modern spot that’s also home to Melvin Brewing. It won the 2015 Small Brewpub of the Year award at the Great American Beer Festival as well as two World Beer Cup Medals in 2014.
Can’t miss favorites include shishito peppers and potatoes, a burger, or one of the spicy Thai specialities, all of which fuel up famished appetites and go perfectly with any of Melvin’s tasty brews. Highlights include the always popular 2 x 4 DIPA or the lighter Killer Bee’s. Kung fu and ski flicks shows on the television, along with the hip-hop music, all add up to a hopping après scene.
